Intentional Community

Currently, we have our first full time and one short term resident. We hope this will open the door for more to come. The vision of the Intentional Community is in partnership with OneCircle Farm, 56 Paritai Lane, Amberley.

Vision

  • Vision is for shared sustainable and self-sufficient community living, supporting care into aging, while holistically supporting health of people and the planet, and, at all times respecting Mother and Father Nature, ourselves and each other.
  • The community will be based on Ubuntu ("I am me because of you") guidelines, moving away from a money-driven society to a society driven by people, their talents and their passion for life, where everyone contributes their natural talents or acquired skills to the greatest benefit of all in their community. A community that has at its centre the planet, people and all sentient beings.
  • This will be a 'spiritual' community; each participant committing to their spiritual/emotional growth while taking self-responsibility for their emotional state and experiences rather than blaming outside themselves.
  • This community will not be based on any particular dogma, doctrine, ritual etc other than the belief in Unity of all and Love. Everyone's 'path' to Unity and Love is to be respected.
  • The community will be open to all faiths or no faith, all ages, all genders, all ethnicities, regardless of socio-economic grouping, education, physical and intellectual abilities as long as there is balanced residential demographics and all adhere to the terms and conditions and vision.
  • This community will encourage and support a vegetarian and vegan lifestyle.
  • This community will be with approval of neighbors and local council requirements.
  • All residents will be given community roles according to their skills and each will be supported in their role(s).
  • There will be a 'trial' period of living in the community before formal acceptance.
  • There will be consensus decision-making in the main community activities but with 'time restraints'.
  • Any conflict arising will be addressed using the Conflict Resolution Guidelines.
  • This will be a community for continuity of life, with the possibility from birth to death.
  • As far as possible, home birth and home death will be given by the residents, supported with soul midwifery, birthing midwifery and nursing care, which will be called in when necessary.

Infrastructure

  • Establishment of landscaped area (2nd/west Paddock??) for residential community comprised of a cluster of tiny homes, some owned and some available for rent.
  • Main house for community use; communal washing machine; kitchen for preserving etc and communal meals; communal get-togethers; visitors' accommodation; education; workshops; meetings.
  • Premises available for home birth and home death, including the laying out of the body until burial or cremation.
  • Yurts kept as quiet spaces for meditation, reading (library established), yoga, qigong, massage, sound healing or for dancing and music jams.
  • Old church purchased and re-sited on farm for larger gatherings, Oneness blessings, weddings, meetings.
  • Caravan kept for WWOOFing and volunteer help accommodation.
  • Running and management of farms will be sustainable and as environmentally positive as possible.
  • All tiny houses to be sustainable as possible: built from sustainable materials, rainwater collection, solar panels for power generation (off the grid) and composting toilets, grey water collection and disposal.
  • Waste dealt with as sustainably as possible- composting and recycling, buying in bulk to reduce packaging, encourage buying locally.
  • Community garden and medicinal garden using organic, biodynamic principles. If residents not involved, they have first option to purchase excess produce.
  • Communal coppicing and replanting of trees, wood gathering and chopping; communal care of fruit trees, berries etc; communal care of gardens and grounds.
  • Shared resources as much as possible, such as the purchase and maintenance of communal electric cars, communal electric bikes, and a van for group transport.

Structure

  • The farm(s) to be 'owned' by a trust. Trustees initially to be John and Michele, Aarn and Devi, plus 2-4 others (to be discussed).
  • The community (farms) will be a social enterprise making profit with moneys earned to be put back into the community
  • Earnings from farms could be: hired as retreat venues, airbnb in Queenie, people staying in sleepouts, income from excess communal garden produce, hire of yurts, hire of church for meetings and weddings, rents from rented tiny houses, vegetarian and vegan catering.
  • All residents to pay a farm levy which will cover rates, insurance, water, maintenance, the purchase and maintenance of communal electric cars, communal electric bikes, an electric van (our commitment is to renewable energy and a move away from our reliance on fossil fuels) for transporting into the village to the pool, library, school, pre-school, gym, cinema, restaurants, pubs, shops, beach etc, and on site nursing care.

This is a living document open to reflection, and further unfolding. It is merely the first stage for dialogue of the vision to begin.
